There are many reasons you may want a password protected area on your website. You can use cPanel's built in functionality to help you accomplish this.

  • Click the "Password Protect Directories" icon.

  •  Here is the tricky part - navigating to your directory that you want protected. You will be looking at a big list of directories on your screen. If you click the directory name, you will be prompted to password protect that directory. If you click the little folder icon to the left of the directory name, you will be shown a list of all the directories inside that directory. You can then select any of those directories to be password protected.
  •  When you have selected your directory, you need to check the box beside "Password protect this directory:" under the Security Settings heading. You can name the area if you choose as well.
  •  Next, you need to assign at least 1 user. You do this under the "Create User" heading. Simply fill in the username field, then enter the desired password (or use the password generator) twice and click the "add/modify authorised user" button.
