CPanel - How to create/edit/delete a file using the File Manager

Obviously, you can always use FTP to modify your files in your account. If you want a web based interface, you can also use cPanel's built in File Manager to modify your files. To modify your files through file manager, please do the following:

  • Login to cPanel!
  • Click the "File Manager" icon

  • Select your file - you can navigate using the file tree on the left of your screen, it is very similar to the File Explorer on your windows pc.

  • You will notice a bunch of options displayed at the top of the screen. Select whether you would like to edit/delete, etc.

  • You will be presented with a popup box asking you to confirm what you wish to do. There may also be some notes on the popup so please read them carefully.


To create a file:

  • Click the "new file" button at the top of the page.

  • You will be presented with a pop up box asking for the name of the file- including the extension (.html, .php, etc.)
  • You are also asked where the file should be saved too. By default the location is the same as your current directory.
  • Click the create button

There are other options in the file manager and they are all very self explanatory. If you ever run into any problems, just submit a support ticket!
