The Basic WHM/Cpanel setup asks you to enter a "Server Contact E-Mail Address". This email address is where all the problems that occur on your server, all the account creation/suspensions/termination notices will be sent to.

You are also asked to set the default home directory on which new user account home directories will be created. If for some reason you wish to have home directories setup differently then the default home directory (/home); this can be setup under the "Home Directory Prefix" field. This allows you to have accounts created under /home/sites, or whatever directory fits your needs.

"Main shared virtual host IP" allows you to define which IP address will be used as the main shared IP for domains that are not setup with a dedicated IP. This form of hosting is very common and known as "Name Based virtual hosting".

You must set the servers hostname (eg : ezvps1.ezprovider.net or server.mycustomdomain.com) in the HostName field.

You then need to setup at least 2 nameservers in the Primary and Secondary Nameserver fields (1 nameserver per field please!). A tertiary and fourth nameserver can also be setup if needed. These nameservers would be added as the Default Authoritative nameservers for all the new domains that you create on your account.

This is just a quick summary of the minimum required settings in your WHM basic configuration panel.
