What's the difference between an add-on domain in cPanel and creating a new account in WHM

At EZProvider, we allow you to host unlimited domains under every account. The trick is there are really two ways to setup the domains.

First, you can create the domains as an add-on domain using cPanel. The second method is to login to WHM and create a new account. There are advantages and disadvantages to each method.

Add-on domains via cPanel:

  • Easy to manage: with your cpanel account login you can control all your add-on domains. They are actually setup as sub directories of your account, so there are no multiple username/password combo's to keep track of - if you wish you can simply have 1 ftp account to manage all of your domains.
    * You can however create separate FTP users for the add-on domains if you wish.
    * You can create email addresses for add-on domains.
    * Add-on domains do not get their own cPanel login, you must manage add-on domains with your main cPanel account.
    * Add-on domains do get unique stats, but by default they do not get a login to view these stats - only your main cPanel account can view them. There is a work around, but it takes some knowledge to implement.

Creating a new account via WHM:

  • Full cPanel access, can even create it's own add-on domains!
    * You can set account limits for drive space and bandwidth, email accounts, etc.
    * Has a unique username and password.
